With the development of information technology, new concepts and new services such as Internet access, e-commerce, distance education, Internet of things, video-on-demand, cloud computing, emerge overwhelmingly. The development of television has gone through the process of transition from analog TV to digital TV. Compared with analog TV, digital TV can not only support high-definition video and high-fidelity sound, but also integrate with the existing communication networks and computers, which in all can provide people with a new, more flexible, more convenient, customizable services. Therefore digital television technology is the inevitable trend of the development of the TV industry. And now countries are actively promoting high-definition digital TV business. Higher requirements for design of high-definition digital TV are put forward as the daily increased user demand for digital TV function and service.Therefore, it becomes a normal routine that update and improve the set-top box applications constantly, in order to keep the previous set top box hardware in use. This paper focuses on security and reliability capability of set top box applications upgrade system.The main work of this paper is to study and design high-definition digital set-top box subsystem----online upgrade system (hereinafter referred to as Loader) based on the related theory of software and hardware of high-definition digital set-top boxes. The Loader system is based on embedded Linux operating system and designed to meet the main requirement of high-definition digital set top box. It implements the upgrade of application of set top box.This paper studied the technologies and solutions of high-definition digital TV set top box software upgrade;put forward a new upgrade program based on the current flash characteristics and the demand of upgrade of set top box, double kernel double Loader framework; design a new flash partition solution based on the new application demand and re-design the new boot process relied on the characteristics of embeded Linux; introduce UBIFS and apply its advantages in designing the safe and reliable data upgrade; program a data package tool which is used in generating a variety of upgrade formats in upgrade requirements.With the help of this tool, Loader can function more effectively and safer.The Loader designed in this paper can upgrade application of set top box effectively and make the high-definition digital set top box software upgrade more reliablely. In the trend of increased of user demand and powerfull function set top box,the reliable Loader can provide strong protection for stable work of high-definition digital set top boxes.
