As a precision position sensor, encoder is applied in every field widely, including military and civilian. With the improvement of the precision of the encoder, the calibration of the encoder is more and more concerned by the manufacturers. In view of the detection processes of the traditional calibration devices are complicated and their calibration types are single, what’s more, their precision is low. In this paper, we design a new encoder calibration platform, which is using the dual-frequency laser interferometer for the calibration tool, with high accuracy, high efficiency and strong versatility etc. At the same time, it can calibrate different types of the encoder.Firstly, the calibration principle is analyzed in this paper, and the dual-frequency laser interferometer is confirmed as the angle standard of the system; secondly, the whole design schemes of the calibration platform is introduced, then the mechanical structure is designed and some components are selected for the platform; thirdly, the hardware of the control module and data acquisition module are designed, at the same time, the software design and experimental examples are introduced too; finally, the paper analyze the main error sources of the platform in detail, and make a contrast experiment with the traditional encoder calibration method, at last, a conclusion is drew that the system is feasible and effective.
