Radio Frenquency Identification (RFID) is a kind contactless identification technology begins in1980's, which identifys target and obtains related data through radio frequency signal. Meanwhile, the procedure needs not an artificial intervention. Acturally speaking, RFID is a kind of means of product marking and it is thought to be a replacement of traditional codebar as an effective identification method. Comparatively, Gen2 has its own characteristic, alterable transmitting rate, maskable transmitting data and excellent anti-collision algorithm, which makes Gen2 be a main direction of RFID development in the near future. This paper degignes a software module based on Gen2 air interface protocol. The content includes:Firstly, the paper describes the development of RFID, and its composition, work principle. Also, some comparisons are made between Gen2 and other protocols that are using commomly.Secondly, propose the division and relationship chart of reader's software, analyzes and designes the following modules: application programme interface module, memory management module and tag-authorization module. Function description, design thinking and flow chart or pseudo code is given to each module. Thirdly, the paper analyzes various function of Gen2, including physical link layer and tag protocol layer. The content includes data encoding and decoding, tag read and write, tag lock, tag kill and algorithm flow and description. In addition, multi-tag read in report mode and method to improve success ratio of tag-write are discussed.Fourthly, function and performance of a reader, whose software code is based on this design, is tested, and compared with expected goals.Through actual test, it is shown that the developed software module can run steadily and effectively, reader based on the code can operate Gen2 tag(s). The performance of accuracy, success ratio, operation distance, tag-lock, tag-kill are attained to expected design require.
