Under the promoting of the Internet, wireless sensor networks, radio frequencyidentification, communications technology, intelligent information processing andother new technologies, then emergence a new application-oriented which is namedthe Internet of Things(IOT). At present, the study of the IOT has caused widespreadconcern between the home and the abroad scholars.The biggest difference between the IOT and the traditional network is that theobjects in the IOT can speaks with each other and achieve the exchange ofinformation without the human intervention through the perception of recognitiontechnology. The IOT is an application oriented networking, and the types of thebusiness in the IOT are diversification. Usually the IOT contains a large number ofheterogeneous nodes and the communication way between these nodes also showinga wide variety of data transfer mode. Now the researches of the many key technologyin the IOT have become a hot topic between the home and the abroad. Then from thepoint for the view of the architecture, each layer has a need to careful research withthe characteristics of the IOT, and among these questions the research for the routingis particularly important. Because regardless of any network form, it is impossible totransfer data without the routing protocol, so the IOT is also equal the any networks.And this shows that the research for the routing is one of the key issues for the IOTwhich is can really achieve.Nowadays, when the scholars study and improvement the traditional routingprotocols, the most of them are focus that the nodes in the network are isomorphic,that is, the nodes in the networks have the same software and the hardwareperformance, while avoiding the situation that the nodes are heterogeneous among theeach other. But in fact that any node which can take part in the routing process couldonly select the node for the middle node to forwarding the packet as the next hopnode from their neighbor nodes, so the performance of the neighbor nodes has greatimpact for the stability of the routing. Then the IOT may have the network interweave issues, that is, the IOT is composed by the heterogeneous networks, and there arehave some questions it the IOT such as there are large number of heterogeneousnodes in it. If we can avoid use nodes which they are heterogeneous with the sourcenode when we build the route, then may make the routing protocol to reduce theunnecessary network resource consumption. Or, we may choose the intermediatenodes which have high performance among the nodes that are heterogeneous for thesource node when we build the route, then will be improving the overall performanceof the routing protocol.In this paper, we describe the features of the IOT in detail, and analysis themechanism of the AODV routing protocol in-depth, and on the basis of the analysisfor the many research of the AODV routing protocol, we combine with the feature ofthe IOT which contains a large number of heterogeneous nodes, then we improve theAODV routing protocol, and proposed a new routing protocol called NH-AODVrouting protocol which can suitable and more stable in the environment of the IOT.The main works of this paper have the following two aspects:1.Routing discovery phase: When we establish the route, the traditional AODVrouting protocol assume the nodes in the network are all same. But in this paper, wetargeted the characteristics of the IOT, and combined the situation that there are manydiverse type of the business in the IOT, then when we establish the route, we priorityto let the nodes take part into the route which they are isomorphism for the sourcenode, but for those nodes which are heterogeneous for the source node, we use theweighted average method. We using this method to compare the performance of thoseneighbor nodes which are heterogeneous for the source node, and then choose oneamong these nodes which it has higher performance values than those nodes whichare heterogeneous for the source node to take part into the route establishmentprocess and also the node must to meet the data requirements of the business in theIOT, and the purpose of this method is to provide a suitable routing for the differenttypes of business data in the IOT. In addition, on the optimal route selection criteria,we are considering the hop count, the number of nodes which are isomorphic with thesource node and the performance values of all nodes on the path of the routing asthese three factors, and then choose an optimal path as sending business data and information from all paths.2.Routing maintenance phase: The traditional AODV routing protocol maintainthe node connecting information for the active routing is periodically using thebroadcast HELLO messages, and only use the route repair strategy when the activeroute fracture. In this paper, we consider the characteristics of the IOT, andintroduction a routing optimization mechanism in the routing maintenance phase, andthe purpose is to replace the heterogeneous nodes that may exist in the activities routeto a node which is isomorphism for the source node. In addition, in this paper, weconsider the node status anticipation mechanisms, and before the node which is in theactive route real failure, we according to the location of the node which is in theactive route and the type of the class for the previous hop and next hop node belongsto, we using different early repair strategy for the different situation, and if we choosethe repair strategy are the local advance repair or partial advance repair, then wecreate a backup path, and when the backup path is established, we using the backuppath in advance, instead of waiting the main route path is failure, and using the adoptstrategies that the main route path and the backup path in turn to transmit a packet,and the purpose is to balanced the resources in the localized areas, and prolong thenode survival time in a certain extent which is on the active route, and reduce theprobability of the packets discarded because of the link breakage.In this paper, we use NS2simulation platform to comparison the AODV routingprotocol and the NH-AODV routing protocol, and the experimental results show thatwhen the networks contains the heterogeneous nodes, the improved routing protocolin the routing load, the packet delivery ratio and the average end-to-end delay of thepacket are all better than the AODV routing protocol, thus suggesting that in such acomplex network environment of the IOT, the applicability for the proposedNH-AODV routing protocol is valid.
