With the expanding of DWDM network,the channel power management networkmust accept all kinds of challenge because of increasing dramatically number ofchannels.Variable optical attenuator array is important device of power management innetwork of optical fiber communication.It improves the overall performance of networkthrough adjusting to power fluctuantions in optical transmission. Variable opticalattenuator array based on discrete optical elements that has been used has shortage in termsof cost, speed of response,reliability,miniaturization and integration,so it is difficult tomeet the requirement of the rapid development of optical communication network. Thepaper researches a novel EVOA array based on silicon waveguide (silicon-on-insulator:SOI),the module has lots of advantage,such as small size,reliability,a large number ofchannels(26channels),high integration and so on,its excellent performance can meetrequirement of rapid development of optical communication network requirements.Themain researched content in the paper is following:1.The application of voa array in DWDM system is overviewed,the developed statusand trend of voa array in domestic and foreign is introduced,the innovation and practicalityof the paper is proposed.2.The EVOA array based on technology of SOI is modeled and simulated,it mainlyincludes:(1) The large cross-section single-mode conditions of SOI ridge waveguide is derivedand validated;(2) The polarization of SOI ridge waveguide is optimized to get the condition ofpolarization insensitiveness;(3) The two-dimensional mode matcher is optimized;(4) The physical model of PIN junction of ridge waveguide is established, the modelis simulated.3.The fabrication process of SOI material and planar optical waveguide isintroduced,the process of EVOA array based technology of SOI is given. 4.The packaging technology of EVOA array based on technology of SOI is mainlyanalysed,it is including:(1) The high solidity of broadband antireflection coating is designed and produced.Itsenvironmental adaptability is very strong.(2) The aligned coupling efficiency between single-mode fiber and EVOA array isanalysed,the coupling alignment packaging platform is installed.(3) EVOA array based on technology of SOI is packaged and three samples is got.5.Testing the electrical and optical performance of the module and testing thereliability by Bellcore1221&1209,the result meets business standards.
