With the development of digital television technology, computer and network technique, the function&form of TV studio changes continuously. There’re lots of potential security risks due to equipment and facilities in the SD studio of Dalian Radio&TV station aged after ten years of use. The system equipment is badly in need of upgrade at the present stage. This article aims to improve the defect of the original studio system, for instance, single recording mode, equipment failure and low efficiency, through upgrading the system to HD by the way of overall cluster design and step-by-step implementation. Ultimately the new HD system achieves the goals of resource sharing between studios and HD editing room, improving equipment efficiency, reducing the cost and ensuring the safety of system by device emergency backup.In the solution of designing studio cluster, the video system is based on shared matrix platform, using CCU centralized control and cable jumpers, which sharing all CCU output signal and external signal to the control room of each studio, to achieve signal and equipment resources sharing between studios. The audio system is based on digital audio network routing matrix, constitute a digital audio network with a core of central router, achieving the flexible scheduling and interconnect sharing between the audio system of each studio through the network interfaces. This article also explained the advantage of the studio cluster transformation.Video system adopts a design of pure HD, SD up-conversion and HD down-conversion to meet the need of making TV programs at the present stage of broadcasting in both SD and HD. Audio system uses two digital mixing consoles which are in the same type to make them standby for each other. The system is consisted of full-digital equipment, which could resolve signal degrade problem in the original studio system caused by analog and digital equipment coexisting and frequent digital-to-analogue conversion. This article also explains the advantage of video&audio system improvement.It’s convenient to generate HD&SD programmes and stereo audio by using this HD studio system containing HD down-conversion device presented in this paper.It enables each studio which is transformed by following the studio cluster scheme presented in this paper to accomplish both its individual function and integrated function as one part of an unified studio cluster.Also it provides reliable technical support to make all the studios accomplish various complex tasks of program production and transmission together.
