With the size of the campus network and the quantity of users increasing, theincorrectness in the using of the network and the presence of malicious attacks, the campusnetwork encountered a variety of security and management issues more and more. Focuses onthe incomprehensiveness of the network management, incompatibility, and other problems, this paper studied the SNMP-based network management system, with the characteristics ofthe campus network.First, this paper discussed the model and the architecture of management, focused theresearch on the main protocol of the SNMP, the management information database (MIB) andthe structure of management information (SMI). Second, this paper analyzed the topology ofthe GDUPT campus network and application status, and summarized the problems of themanagement and security, then analyzed the parameters and settings of the campus networkmanagement system, management of the monitoring/control tasks, data management, systemmaintenance, user management and other the non-functional requirements; then did thegeneral structure design of the SNMP-based campus network management system, andfocused on the discussion of the design of the MIB, the flow of information acquisition, mechanism of message communication and the design of the database; implementation of theMIB access, management of topology and interface, network status, traffic monitoring, message communication and malfunction alarm, based on the studies above. At last, proceed the test of topology and interface management, network status, trafficmanagement and all functions. The results shows that all functions of the system ran normallyin the test, and the system does not effect the campus network negatively while running. Theapplication of this system can make more convenience, increase the efficiency for theadministrator to manage the campus network, and improved the security of the campusnetwork.
