With the continuous development of information technology, the network communication technology has become an important part of modern life.The network’s size of government agencies, banks and various types of businesses continue to expand, Device type and Internet behavior diversified, the traditional manual method has been unable to achieve efficient and accurate network management, in order to guarantee the stable operation of the network, the network managers urgently needed an universal and efficient network management software to achieve the automation network management.Many network equipment vendors have developed their own network management products, such as IBM’s Switch Anlyzer and Cisco’s Cisco Works, provide a lot of convenience for network management; but these network management software used a lot of proprietary standards and technologies in their development process, it is not conducive to secondary development, and most of these programs can only apply to a specific network environment, and these network management products can’t accurate the topology of the device to the port level.The article to do a thorough research to the mainstream topology discovery technology at home and abroad, and combined the actual needs for network management software of the modern enterprise network environment designed an efficient network layer and the data link layer topology discovery algorithm based on SNMP protocol. After that focus on the difficulties of network topology discovery——the heterogeneous of MIB library information stored of the different manufacturers and different types of equipment, and specially designed a heterogeneous processing module achieve a common network topology discovery technology. The software was designed can accurate the network topology to the port level that make the network management more accurate. Finally, the topology discovery module is used as a core component to achieve common and efficient network management software, and the research results were tested in an actual enterprise network environment. Test results show the effectiveness of the software to achieve the desired.
