Research On The Application Of Data Mining In Academic Affairs Administration System In Higher Vocational Colleges

Data mining has largely changed the ways to understand and analyze data. Nowadays,data mining techniques have been widely used, particularly in business. Nevertheless,such techniques have seldom been used in education. Currently the academic affairsadministration system in higher education still concerns with the daily routines. The largequantities of data which have been stored have not been effectively used. The hidden valueof these large quantities of data has not been discovered, either. Data mining techniquesare helpful in analyzing the factors affecting the teachers’ qualities and the students’performances and providing basis for promoting education accordingly. Therefore, thisthesis is intended to investigate an academic affairs administration system in which thedata mining is applied.This thesis analyzes the main problems in the academic affairs administration systemin higher education. On the basis of the relevant researches both at home and abroad, itpresents the significance of the application of data mining in academic affairsadministration. It analyzes the needs of the academic affairs system based on data miningand presents a detailed design and implication of such a system. The system uses clusteranalysis in the data mining of teaching evaluation. It analyzes the relationship between theteachers’ personal factors and their evaluation scores. It gives suggestions for theimprovement of the teachers’ qualities. Besides, it uses the association rules in the datamining of the students’ examination performances. It gets the correlation among coursesand the effect of the students’ entrance scores on their examination performances. Itanalyzes the result of the data mining. It gives suggestions for the improvements of thestudents’ examination performances. According to evaluation, the system of data mining isquite applicable in the academic affairs administration. It is helpful for the daily routinemanagement. Because of its accuracy and efficiency in data mining, it is quite effective inproviding basis for administrative decision.
