This thesis tried to analyze the localization of Star Reality Show in China from theperspective of the Homi K.Bhabha’s Culture Hybrid Theory. Article takes the HunanTV’s Star Reality Show, I’m a Singer as an instance to do the research about theweakness and advantages of Chinese Star Realty Show during its localization process.One important concept in Bhabha’s theory is The Third Space, which means the newculture created from the intertwined imported culture and exported culture. This newculture has no similarity with the exported culture and the imported culture, either. Itbecomes a new one, a Third Space. Just as the localized I’m a Singer, though itinhibited the program frame, segment setting and the recreational characteristics fromthe original Reality Show, the program details, the specific performance of Chinesesingers, and the certain program settings all characterize the Chinese culture. Thislocalized program exist differences with the original one, and at the same time, itcannot be conceptualized as a Chinese original program, it is a brand-new program, aso-called Third Space in Bhabha’s theory.Firstly, this article gives a brief introduction to the Star Reality Show, elaborates theprogram frame and features, and analyzes the cause factors and development of theStar Reality Show worldwide. Besides, the beginning chapters also overview theexcellent Stars Reality program frames which are brought in China and possess thehybrid culture features through localization.Third chapter in this article states the culture hybrid theory’s development and currentsituation, and analyzes the motivation of the foreign Star Reality Show’s localizationand the localization approaches. This thesis focused on forth chapter, which comparesHunan TV’s I’m a singer with the South Korea’s original one from the culture hybridperspective, and analyzes the deconstruction of Korea culture and reconstruction ofChinese culture in the localization process. And the fifth chapter gives somesuggestions, such as develop more diverse program formats and more localizedprograms on the basis of Star Reality Show’s rational brought-in, according to the Star Reality Show’s current situation in China. And through the persistent hard work,China will become a strengthening TV power in the world and will be capable toexport its own original TV formats to other countries.
