With the rapid development of network communication technology, embeddedsystem technology and multimedia technology, the technology of video surveillance,has achieved great development. In recent years, the expansion of video surveillanceindustry promotes the video technology to the direction of digital and network. Theremote network video surveillance system in embedded devices has become a focusfor researchers.This paper designed a new embedded network video surveillance system basedon ARM. This video surveillance system uses S3C2440as hardware platform andembedded Linux as software platform. The system uses the USB camera gather thevideo, and then sends it via the Web server which is erected on embedded system. Theusers receive monitor screen through the IE browser. The video surveillance systemconsists of two parts, the client and the server. The function of server is to acquire andencode the video images, and then send the video data. The function of client is tosend video surveillance requests to the server through the IE browser and receivevideo images.The design word mainly includes three parts: hardware structure design, softwareplatform building and application software design. Firstly, it proposes the wholesystem hardware design based on S3C2440. Then the paper builds the systemsoftware development platform based on the system hardware scheme, includingtransplanting U-boot, configuring and transplanting Linux kernel, and making the rootfile system. Application software design consists of three modules: realizing thecollection of video data based on V4L2interface provided of Linux kernel; realizingthe video code of MPEG-4standard based on Xvid; and realizing the real-timetransmission based on RTP/RTCP in view of the system’s real-time demands. Thispaper makes a deep research on video acquisition technology, coding technology ofvideo data, and network transmission technology. And it has been achieved thefunctions of video acquisition, coding, and network transmission by programming inthe Linux environment. Finally, it takes integration and test and realizes the functionof whole system. Compared with the traditional video monitoring system, the systemhas significant advantages in real time, stability and continuity.
