Now network video surveillance systems have been widely used in industry and daily life, wh ich developing trend is coming to more intelligent, digital and high-definit ion wit h high- rate, low- latency and low-power. It is known that embedded technology consumes low power, and the new generation of video compression standard H.264 improves both coding effic iency and network utilization in order to gain high- rate and low- latency. Therefore, the combination of these two technologies is the future direction of monitoring system.In this dissertation, the development of video surveillance system is analyzed, and the main video surveillance technology is studied.A kind of embedded video surveillance syste m based on a TI O MAP4460 platform is developed. The characteristics of the platform are studied, and the advantages of ARM and DSP processor are analyzed, and so did the ADV7280-M board used to simulate origina l video gathering. According to the need of re al- time surveillance, the video surveillance system is implemented with embedded Linux, whose controlling and processing core is TI O MAP4460 and data gathering module is ADV7280-M board. Firstly, the interfaces of TI O MAP4460 platform and the characteristics of ADV7280- M board are introduced. Then the software environment is developed, including U- boot and Linux core transplanting, root file system build ing, and cross compiling environment developing. In addition, the V4L2 compiling interface for video data gathering is introduced, based on which the coding process with H.264 of video data gathered is analyzed. After that, the overall design of video surveillance system is implemented. At last, after GStreamer framework is used to imple ment the streaming med ia server and the compiling of v4l2 src plug- in, the function of the whole system is tested and analyzed. It is shown that, the video surveillance system designed in this dissertation realizes double- channel video inputting, under which condit ion the surveillance video is clear, the transmission is stable, and the quality is good, ensuring the need of real-time video surveillance.
