With the rapid development of modern technology and the economy, people are concerned about the quality of life while attention to security issues has become more sophisticated. As an important part of the security industry, video surveillance play a more important role in human life and social development, it is widely used in various fields of society. A huge amount of information in modern society, traditional surveillance system is difficult to meet the needs of society, embedded video surveillance system has low cost, high performance, easy installation features, can be a good help to achieve networking and digitization of surveillance system.This article in-depth understanding of the current situation and the social background of the development of surveillance system, based on a full analysis of the needs and capabilities of the various solutions, designed a embedded video surveillance system based on ARM+Linux. The surveillance system is divided into three parts:scene acquisition module, image processing module & network transmission module. Site acquisition module complete video monitoring field data collection; Image processing module is mainly responsible for the collected raw data compression coding to ensure a clear image and reduce redundant data; Network transmission module completes data transmission services. The system uses a low-cost, low-power, high-resolution design. On Hardware, we select AT91RM9200 chip industry as a microprocessor. On the system software, we introduce the basic design of embedded Linux migration and drive systems. On Application section, we use V4L2 to complete on-site digital video data collection work. And we also designed the H.264 encoding program to complete the image compression processing. Finalized based on UDP network transmission module design.After the completion of design work, we set up a test environment to complete the environmental and functional testing of the system. Test results show that the system can work properly and efficiently, the image encoding section meet the design requirements, has a high application value.
