High-definition(HD) video signal has been used more and more widely in dailylife due to its high resolution. With the improvement of people’s living standard, theincreasingly high requirements of processing quality and real time are given to HDvideo signal. Thus, the embedded system is widely applied in HD video signalprocessing due to its flexibility and convenience.In this paper, EP2S90F1020, one chip of the series of Altera’s Stratix II, ischosen as the main control chip, and a general video signal processing system isbulit. The video processing system consists acquisition and display unit, video cacheunit, UART unit for the HD-SDI video signal and PAL analog video signal. Imageprocessing arithmetic and logic control of the whole video processing system arecompleted in FPGA, which can highly improve the performance of real-timeprocessing for video images.After completing the design of hardware system, based on the study ofcharacteristic of1080P25HD video signal, the software design of acquisition anddisplay unit for HD-SDI video signal is further completed. At the same time, thevideo image buffer units are designed, including the design of ping-pang cachestructure and SRAM read-write controller.After completing the design of basic units of HD-SDI video signal, such assignal acquisition unit, cache unit and display unit, this paper further verifies someHD video signal processing algorithms in the hardware system.(1) Afast median filtering algorithm is given and realized in FPGA;(2) Histogram equalization algorithm is studied, and the real-time histogramequalization of HD video signal is given;(3) A scaling method based on adaptive interpolation for video image is given,and satisfying results have been obtained on HD video signal;(4) Detection of moving targets is implemented using interframe differencemethod, and detection of moving heat source in infrared images is presentedin this paper;All the acquisition, processing and display of HD video signal are completed in FPGA, which can achieve the real-time processing. Meanwhile, the system can alsobe compatible with the analog video signal interface. Therefore, the videoprocessing platform has a strong versatility.
