Parallel computer, digital signal processor, application specific integrated circuits are usually used as CPU in the real-time application of embedded system. In the recent years, with the development of EDA technology, a method using FPGA as CPU becomes a new trend. FPGA is used in more and more field of embedded system with its low cost, high parallel ability and flexibility, especially in the video image application situation. A hardware platform dealing with video-image collecting based on FPGA is designed and implemented in the thesis.Image process needs to solve the problems of data expanding and time-consuming. To solve these problems, HDL language is used on FPGA so that function module can be carried out in the hardware method, which, to some extent, solves the speed problems happened in the image process.The whole system is made up with several modules connected through Avalon bus.The platform is created in the advantage of video encoding and parallel technologies combined with I C bus module, video decoding module, memory control module, and image detecting module. The modules, as main extern devices are as follows: video collecting module, image storing module and image detecting module, among which storing module's reading and writing is carried out through Avalon's access to the memory. With the comparison of different video collecting ways, the way of camera with decoding chip is adopted to implement the initialization of decoding chip, AD converter and video decoding. Avalon's main port is used to carry out reading and writing of video data on the basis of research on SOPC and Avalon bus transmission. A kind of image detecting method is designed with matlab according to the analysis of referred algorithms and implemented on FPGA, followed which are the testing data and running results of the system on FPGA.The key part of system's design is at how to carry out and control the logic circuits of the image detecting algorithm instead of research the algorithm itself. So the research field is mainly based on how to implement real-time signal's collecting, storing, showing and detecting,and load the all modules to a simple FPGA.Compared with the other methods,which is largely save rhe resource of the system.At the end,the result of all parts is provided by the debugged on the FPGA.
