The polarization navigation method based on natural characteristics has animportant significance and military application value since its stability at resistingdestructing from man-made factors in a wide range, especially in the specialcircumstances like the war, where the satellite navigation signals are weaken andeven vanished. For the disadvantages of the existing navigation angle acquisitionmethod of bionic polarization navigation, the thesis proposed a navigation methodmodel named the atmospheric polarization pattern to orientation imitated the neuralprocessing mechanism of Cataglyphis, this model realized the mapping of E-vectorpattern of the atmospheric polarized pattern to the orientation information. Themodel provided a guidance for the designing of equipment about obtaining andprocessing polarized light information to navigate.The main contents of this thesis are included as below:(1) The thesis introduced the behavior and mechanism of polarized navigationresearched by predecessors. It summarized the existing polarized navigation signalprocessing models of Cataglyphis and analyzed the drawback of the existingmodels.(2) The thesis established a model of direction analytical imitated thePOL-neurons by computer modeling method and realized the mapping of threetypes of POL-neurons and the compass neurons indicated heading information. Inaddition, this thesis verified the correctness and validity of the model byexperiments, the maximum error was less than0.08°.This model providedreference to the signal processing research of bionic polarization navigation.(3) The thesis established a model of polarized light navigation imitating theneural processing mechanism of Cataglyphis, namely, the POL-neurons respondsthe signal delivered by ommatidia which receives polarized light from the sky, then,it afferents response information to the brain to analyze the orientation. The modelrealized the mapping of E-vector pattern of the atmospheric polarized pattern to theorientation information. Also, it designed experiment imitated Cataglyphis’behavior to verify the correctness and validity of the model.
