Computerized image analysis plays an increasing role in supporting clinical and research needs. A variety of medical imaging software had been developed, and promote the development of medical computerized image analysis,3D Slicer is a excellent one of this type. As a free open source software application for medical image computing,3D Slicer not only support the basic medical image analysis and processing technology, but also offers many advanced features.Although this platform is a powerful for medical use, it is also under heavy developing, and a lot of functions is expected to be integrated. In order to enable it to support internationalization, the way to compile Slicer application and join in Slicer developer community, three kinds of software internationalization strategy, string encoding, and the architecture of Slicer were researched in this paper. The work done is as follows:1. The way to compile Slicer application and join in Slicer developer community was firstly researched, Slicer developer community is the major force in Slicer development.2. The architecture of3D Slicer was analyzed, which follows a modular and layered approach. And3D Slicer itself consists of the lean application core, Slicer Modules, and Slicer Extensions.3. Three kinds of software internationalization strategy was compared, and string encoding was analyzed too.4. According to Qt internationalization theory and the GUI creating way in Slicer, a Slicer internationalization method was proposed.The basic idea of this method is using the translation function of the user-visible strings and by loading a different translation dictionary to achieve language switching. 5. Through the Qt internationalization tools, as well as a Self-development tool, the internationalization of the entire platform was achieved.
