Medical imaging technologies such as X-ray, CT, MRI, PET, can not only provide human anatomy structure information, even also reflect the physiological features and metabolism of organs. But how to use these different imaging technologies sufficiently to auxiliary the doctors for disease diagnosis, is always one of the hotspots and difficult problems in the medical engineering technology area.For the traditional ultrasound system is lack of three-dimensional anatomical structures in the image information as well as identifies the quantitative positions of ultrasonic probe difficultily, develop an ultrasound inspection system which has comprehensive characters of the three dimensional surface model and two-dimensional real-time ultrasound image and their spatial relationships. This system is mainly composed of the ultrasound image information sharing module, ultrasound visualization module, ultrasonic probe real-time tracking module,2D/3D registration and integration module and ultrasonic transducer calibration real-timely modules. This system can be initially applied to the clinical education and diagnosis. But also this system has three major advantages, namely cheapness, scalability, maintenance. The main contents of this article are as follows:1. Research some basic concepts of medical image registration and fusion technology, such as methods, significance and application fileds.2. Analysis and research of the basic working principle of electromagnetic tracking system trakSTAR and the software development kits to realize the ultrasonic probe accurate positioning in real time, and research the calibration algorithm to address the real-time calibration of ultrasonic probe during the inspection issue.3. Research on the ultrasound imaging equipment SonixTouch as well as software development kit to generate the high quality ultrasound images and to address the ultrasound imaging systems sharing ultrasound images with image processing software.4. Analysis the system architecture and MRML data type of medical image processing software3D Slicer to realize the real-time ultrasound image visulation function quickly and conveniently.5. Research on the problem in two-dimensional ultrasound image registration and fusion with three dimensional models, in order to get exactly precise relative spatial relationship between them, and designed an improved iterative closest point algorithm for2D/3D registration and fusion capabilities.6. Design a simple ultrasound phantom, and it is used to test the system’s performances.
