With the rapid development of the Internet and the continuous progress in construction of safety cities, video surveillance system has become a highlight in our lives. Surveillance systems are deployed in campuses, markets, streets and other important places to maintain social security. As the processing power of microprocessors improves, surveillance systems become more digitized and intelligent. In some areas where monitoring are needed in remote and widely distributed locations, it is difficult to deploy wired surveillance systems. Meanwhile, due to the restriction of the angles of the camera, an all dimensional monitoring is hard to achieve.In order to overcome the defects of the existing surveillance systems and adapt to the current networks, a multi-channel video transmission system based on3G network is introduced in this paper. This system mainly uses the popular3G network, and equips four cameras in each device to realize switchable or all video data transmitting, and monitoring in all dimensions.In the beginning, the paper elaborates the current situation and trend of surveillance systems and introduces some related techniques, including the third generation mobile systems, communication protocols, digital interface standards, compression standards and other streaming media technologies. These technologies are the theoretical foundation for the system. Then, the architecture and each part of the system are analyzed, in which the terminal device is a focus. After that, the paper gives a detailed analysis of the WCDMA network access, including using PPP mode to access network and network quality enhancement. In the end, it mainly introduces multi-channel video processing, including multi-channel video data capture, image segmentation, H.264compression, RTP transmission, etc. And finally, in order to improve the system performance, a scheme of smooth transmission is proposed.Through testing, this system successfully achieves a sound, clear, and wireless monitoring.
