With the rapid development of Internet, new services of Internet increaseconstantly, and Internet traffic increases sharply, IPv4already can’t be content withpeople’s demands about the function and performance of Internet. The day2011.2.3,global IPv4address resource was officially declared dried up, so transition to IPv6isinevitable. However, large-scale deployment and application of IPv6, needhigh-performance router, while improving the performance of router, not only needshigh-efficient routing lookup algorithm but also needs high-performance routingstructure and forwarding and control architecture.From the time of the appearance of router to now, architecture of router haschanged greatly, the first generation router is centralized router based on shared bus, andthe second is decentralized routing architecture based on shared bus, after that isdistributed router architecture with crossbar switch structure, including ASIC routerforwarding with hardware and network processor router. To be content with therequirement of new generation internet, people have already started doing research withthe architecture of new generation router.To distributed router, realizing the separation of forwarding and control function, isvery important to improve the expandable ability of router. The forwarding and controlarchitecture of distributed router plays a key role, high performance of forwarding andcontrol architecture can improve the whole performance of distributed router. The thirdchapter of the paper describes one kind of IPv6forwarding and control architecture ofdistributed router, moreover, functions of forwarding information organized withdistributed data base are implemented, also are the functions of module of add, delete,update. And some solutions are used to guaranty the consistency problem of IPv6forwarding information.Because the address length of IPv6increases to128bit, previous IP routing lookupalgorithms with IPv4can’t accommodate to IPv6well. Recently, people also proposemany routing lookup algorithms with IPv6, but they respectively have advantages and disadvantages. In accordance with the feature of multi-core processor, and with theanalysis about the characteristics of current IPv6prefix distribution, this paper appliesseveral data structures, and realizes an IPv6fast routing lookup scheme, and gives ananalysis of performance of the scheme. At last, is the test and analysis of functionsrelated to forwarding information and performance of packet forwarding of thedistributed router. The realized distributed IPv6router based on the design, have a goodpacket forwarding performance, and can meet with the requirement of practical use.
