Due to population growth and aging,there is nearly180000000for visually impairedpopulation in the whole world, and this number will increase7000000people each year.By the end of2009, the number of China blind accounts for about18%of the number ofglobal blind, which is increasing year after year. According to the statistics,the number ofChina blind averagely increases by450000annually.People obtain95%of informationthrough visual in the life.One consequence of impaired vision is inconvenient,which bringgreat difficulties to the work, life, social activities. With the development of the society,people are paying more attention to visual impaired people, and how to help visuallyimpaired people travel to solve the difficulty of the inconvenient in recent years has beenthe research focus.With the great progress of the intelligent electronic technology,bringingthe hope for the researchers.There is a long history for ultrasonic detection technology, and especially the spreadof ultrasound is not easy to be disturbed by the external environment in the air. Due to theultrasonic attenuation is slow, it can spread to the far distance. Therefore, the further studyof ultrasonic testing technology has a very important practical significance, to develop akind of the device which used to help the blind walk and detect the obstacles In thesurrounding environment.This paper presents a design scheme of guide system based on ultrasonic sensor array.The relevant experiments show that the system has been easy to operate, and there areother advantages such as the large detection range, the high precision, the goodhuman-computer interaction and solving the inconvenience of the travel for visualimpaired people to a large extent. The innovation of the guide system is proposing a newdesign idea for the existing problems, and ultrasonic phased array that is improved in themedical detection and the military will be used to guide system, designing of alarm modulethrough combining with binaural sound localization principle.In order to conveniently process data, analysis the results and evaluate the performance of the system for theresearchers,the results of the detection can inform the user through the stereo headphonesalarm system and can also transfer the data to PC machine through USB port. This paperfirstly researches into the related theories and principles, and puts forward the hardwaredesign of guide system based on ultrasonic sensor array. Then on the basis of the hardwaredesigns the software of the system, the application of C language programming to realizethe function of the hardware circuit,the application of MATLAB algorithm collecting thedata, analyzing and realizing of algorithm. At last this paper completes the relevantexperiments, evaluating the performance of the system, pointing out the existingshortcomings in the design,and planning of the next step of research.The analysis of the experimental results prove that the design of guide system basedon ultrasonic sensor array is basic feasible. Compared with traditional guide system, theperformance of the system has been greatly improved,which is a great advantage on thedetection accuracy, the detection methods, the portability, the alarm mode and so on,whichis of great practical significance.
