A heterogeneous Ad Hoc network has been widely developed and spread, which is consisting of different devices and different transmission methods. To guarantee the normal communications of the each node, the IP address auto-allocation protocol is the critical part in the heterogeneous network protocols. Due to the existence of IP address auto-allocation protocol, each node in the network has a unique identification. After a heterogeneous Ad Hoc network connects to the Internet, the IP address auto-allocation protocol also guarantees each node for gaining a global IP address. Therefore, the IP address auto-allocaotion protocol is an important indemnity and premise on the communications in a heterogeneous network. In this thesis, the heterogeneous network is consisting of IEEE 802.11 netowrk and IEEE 802.15 network. The composition schema of the netowrk is mentioned, and the IP address auto-allocation protocol in the heterogeneous network and the routing protocol in 802.15 netowrk are described. The IP address auto-allocation protocol is a distributed protocol, whose characteristic is selforganization, anti-damage, natural repair. The IP address auto-allocation process is that some nodes in the network provide the allocation information to the new node, when a node joins in the network. The Netwrok Simulator version 2 is used to simulate this protocol and to test the performance of the protocol. The simulation results show the protocl takes on low latency, less addresses conflict and high utilization of addresses. At the end of this thesis, the IP address auto-allocation protocol is implemented in 802.11, 802.15 and heterogeneous Ad Hoc network. The linux C, J2ME and the double protocol stacks technique are used in the implemention. This thesis provides a theoretical reliance in the researching on the heterogeneous Ad Hoc network.
