As an important part of the publishing industry and copyright output, thecopyright agent appears very early and plays a vital role in the Western countries.However, the copyright agent in China appears many years later. Affected byseveral factors, the copyright agent in China develops very slowly. After thedevelopment of more than20years, it still has a little influence in the domesticpublishing industry.With the promotion of China’s status and the influence of economy’sincreasing in the world, the cultural influence, as a part of national soft power, isnot enough. Under the background of globalization, soft power, as an importantnational strategy, plays a vital role in having the right to speak in the world andprotecting a country. And the main way of enhancing the national soft power isthe culture output. The copyright output of copyright agent can bring theenormous foreign exchange which will become a new economic growth point,and at the same time, the cultural products of copyright output will have along-term influence.Copyright agent becomes the messenger for cultural communicationbecause of the particularity of its products. Considering the Confucius Institutesall over the world, the copyright agent will have a more broad space fordevelopment. Through the way which the cultural communication promotes thecopyright trade, these two will eventually form a mutually reinforced cycle. The thesis is divided into four parts:In the case study of Harry Potter, the first part tries to emphasize theeconomic benefits which the copyright agent brings to authors, press, publishingindustries as well as foreign exchanges. It will discuss the supporting policiesfor cultural development in China and the achievements in cultural field. At thesame time, it analyze the disadvantages which Western countries and the culturaldifferences bring to our culture. It gives the suggestion that our copyright agentshould have the responsibility for outputting our culture. By analyzing WolfTotem, this part tires to prove that the simple way to output copyright is to findthe cultural similarity. Besides, the copyright agent should fully tap the Chinesecultural resources and decorate books which contain Chinese culture andmeanwhile meet the Western readers’ requests.The second part focuses on the copyright agent in China which can bedivided into several parts such as the private book publishers, non-public capitaljoint venture, network copyright agent and foreign copyright agent. The networkcopyright agent takes “Shengda Literature” as an example, and the foreigncopyright agent refers to the representative offices of both the foreign press andthe foreign agencies in China.The third part discusses the development and problems of copyright agentin China through the event that Mo Yan has won the Nobel Prize. Taking MoYan’s agent as an example, it tries to analyze the development of private agent inChina, and in the field of digital publishing, it sets the example of “Shengda Literature”. This part will discuss the development space of copyright agent inthe creative cultural industries through Mo Yan’s derivative copyright, thereason why the copyright should be outputted through the translation of MoYan’s literary works and the disorder of market caused by the absence ofcopyright agent through Mo Yan’s ownership of copyright.The last part gives the suggestion that how the copyright agent develops inChina. It includes that improving the environment for development, providingall kinds of supports, establishing industry associations and cooperating with theConfucius Institute. Confucius Institute provides the copyright agent a platformwhich can disseminate culture and promote the copyright. At the same time, ithas the stimulative effect on cultivating the translators, which will provide abroad space for the development of copyright agent.
