GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications) for20years as a commercializedmature technology is still carrying the world’s largest number of mobile users. GSMtechnology absorption3G and LTE technologies, constantly updated sound, so as to adapt tothe new development needs to extend its technical life. The emergence of femto technologyprovides a new solution for indoor coverage.The femto technology built network low-cost andflexibly and coverage accurately, is becoming a hot field of mobile communicationstechnology. Femto integrated mobile service, fixed-line service, and broadband servicestogether, the user via a Femto base station will be able to achieve all their communicationsneeds,meanwhile femto system is an flat system architecture, it in line with the evolution ofmobile network. Therefore, the combination of GSM system and Femto technology is the bestway to resolve system expansion and indoor coverage.According to the the Femto technical characteristics and current trends in GSM, thispaper presents a GSM Femto access network system. The system use Femto systemarchitecture, most of the BTS and BSC functions are integrated in the Femto base station,Femto base station access to the core network via Femto gateway. Femto base station using IPIuh interface via broadband network access to the Femto Gateway, Femto Gateway using thetraditional E1line access to the core network. Firstly, the GSM femto system architecture isintroduced simply. Secondly, the protocol stack of GSM Femto Gateway, the hardware andsoftware resources, as well as the components of the module are analyzed. Finally, details ofthe design of signaling systems and resource management functions of the gateway are given,and the key technologies are studied and discussed.The gateway system present by this paper is implemented through the functionalmodular design, including a signaling processing module, IP access and data processingmodule, TRAU module and E1adapter module. Signaling and data between the gateway andthe base station is hosted by a different transport layer, signaling is hosted by the SCTPprotocol and data is hosted by the UDP protocol. A interface signaling between the gatewayand the core network using the traditional telecommunications network signaling system No.7, voice data use PCM coded transmission via E1timeslot. Finally, testing the system toverify the gateway resources management function is ok. The gateway performance can reachcommercial standards, it has important practical value.
