The volumetric display technology is a true3d display technology. It can display the3d image in the real3d space with physical depth. It’s the leading technology in the3D display area.The voxels are in the same size and distributed uniformly according to Cartesian coordinate system in canonical volumetric display. For the demand of canonical volumetric display, how to represent a continuous3d model closely using voxels, which called voxelization is researched.First, the voxelization algorithms of3d lines, surfaces and solids are researched. The fast voxelization algorithm of the3d lines is summarized. The fast voxelization algorithm of surfaces based on the triangle mesh and the voxelization algorithm of solids based on the tetrahedron are proposed. Second, fast voxelization software for canonical volumetric display system is developed based on the previous algorithms. The software takes advantage of API function of SolidWorks. The software could voxelize the wireframes, surfaces and solids in SolidWorks and obtains the volumetric data for3d display of canonical volumetric display system. The software provides the function of single frame image display. The user could observe every single frame image and evaluates the voxelization result. Last, the results of fast voxelization software are not fine enough in some conditions. In order to solve the problem, the section plug-in for fine voxelization is developed. The plug-in cut the models into slices and get the image of slices. It can remedy the defect of the fast voxelization software.
