Edgar snow who actives in the1930s to the1970s of china is the first western journalist of red China. Snow is a progressive democratic fighter and optimistic idealist, advocating freedom and democracy, fair and justice, attaching great importance to the value of human life, and declaring that it very important to realize equality between countries and protecte everyone’s rights. His pursuit of ideal world agrees withThe perseverance and indomitable willpower of spirit of The Chinese Communist Party. So he issues a different voice to word by red star over china, other side of the river, the long revolution and so on. His word in shaping the image of China broke the world mainstream culture stereotypes of China, which is a different image of china in the world mainstream collective imagination. Snow’s image of China is between ideology and upopia. This paper is divided into four chapters:the first chapter discusses Edfar snow’s life experiences in china and his understanding of The Chinese Communist Party and emotional change process. This chapter argues that snow understanding of China is gradually changes with the deepening of the interview. At the beginning of the first got to China,he fantansized about the KMT goverment and the understanding of The Chinese Communist Party. But after entering the Shensi-kansu-ningsia border region, he gradually realized that Chinese Communist Party is the saviour of China. He concluded that only The Chinese Communist Party can make China’s road to freedom and democracy. The second chapter is snow’s chinese image. The Chinese codenses into a powerful force to resisit the foreige aggression and win the cause of national independence and established a new democratic counthy. Snow praise warmly the Chinese bravery,the quality of justice. The third chapter is snow’s dividing into political, economical and cultural aspects. Snow considered that the democracy and freedom thought had a great influence on The Chinese Communist Party. It broke through the traditional Chinese Confucian system and established a new system of modern governance for china’s modernization. Chapter four discusses snow’s characteristics, causes and effects of China’s image. Through comparing with the contemporary writers, the author’s image of China is the most important characteristics of objective and fair,not to demonise China, also do not deliberately to beautify China. He hold this opinion because of its own cultural quslity, the ideal pursue between the inner and the international and domestic environment and so on various aspects of common factors.Studying Edgar snow’s image in China, not only can help us know more clearly that special historical period in China, but also can help us more comprehensive understanding of the native ethnic characteristics, so as to serve socialist construction better.
