With China’s rapid economic development, people’s living standards greatly improved. The emergence of some high-tech can better serve the people’s lives. Video surveillance in schools, banks, military, transportation, community, and better able to restrain people of Conduct, and to provide evidence for the crimes of the criminals so that we can better protect people’s lives and property. With the rapid development of computer technology, as well as the popularity of the network bandwidth, video surveillance from analog surveillance gradually to the development of network monitoring. This overcomes the conventional video surveillance presence of complex structure and expensive, need a large number of cables drawback.Due to the rapid development of embedded, embedded products can be seen everywhere in people’s lives, such as air conditioning, refrigerator, phone, camera. In this paper, the design of embedded Linux-based remote video surveillance system is based on the the Micro2440development board as a hardware platform, code-open, streamlined kernel, support for multiple hardware platforms, network powerful features of Linux system as the software platform. By the Bootloader transplant, kernel porting configure and compile root file write, and finally achieved through the application of the USB camera video capture, compression and H.264encoding, compression of data by the TCP/IP protocol for network transmission, the client opens the application can be received as far as the video image, and then for video surveillance.
