University library is an important position for universities’ research services. In the network environment, it plays an important role on improving the level of scientific research by expanding the function of services for scientific researches and providing depth services for scientific users. Compared to college students, university scientific users have more and heavier research tasks, stronger demands of new knowledge, therefore, they have higher requires on library services. Actually, university library service is almost impossible to provide scientific users substantial assistance. The purpose of this research is to find out university scientific users information seeking behavior during their research process and also the tasks and problems they have faced under the research context, so that it can integrate library’s information services into scientific users’ researches.Firstly, after discriminating the related and context concepts of information seeking behavior, this paper provides future researches a theoretical basis by introducing the previous researches of information seeking behavior and its different understandings on different fields, and arranging related foreign theories of information search behavior.Secondly, this paper discusses the relationship between information seeking behavior and research contest during the research stage, which involves three dimensions:the motivation, the ways, the activities and also the styles of information seeking behavior. On this basis, this paper establishes a research framework of information seeking behavior under the research context.Thirdly, this paper recognizes the four variables that affect information seeking behavior under the research context. The four variables are the degree of problem recognition, task structure, scientific environment and also the domain knowledge. The paper assumes that the variables have positive correlation with the range and depth of information seeking behavior. And in this part, this paper also uses the data which are collected from questionnaires to two aspects:having a different analysis on information seeking behavior’s features and verifying the hypothesis, which is put forward previously, by the way of Structural Equation Modeling, and whether it is suitable to use the data to observe variables by the analysis software of SPSS and AMOS.The result is as follows:1. The frequency and number of the seeking behavior maybe different due to the different status and research stages, and the gender of scientific users makes no difference to its frequency and number.2. The five ways of information seeking behavior are all related to the range of the seeking behavior, it shows that scientific users have the ability and also different ways to seek information.3. The six hypothesises are verified, the conclusion is that the task structure and the domain knowledge both have a positive correlation with the range of information seeking behavior, and the degree of problem recognition, task structure, scientific environment and also the domain knowledge all have a positive correlation with the depth of information seeking behavior. Finally, according to the analysis and verifying conclusion of the information seeking behavior under the research context, this paper puts forward the countermeasures, under the research context, about information services, so that it can promote library to improve its level of information services. This paper proposes recommendations to university library on the following four aspects:1. Embedding library service into research activities;2. Providing targeted disciplines information services;3. Providing data management service to scientific users;4. Building research collaboration service platforms.
