There are increasing difficulties and challenges of managing students after enrollment expansion of vocational and technical colleges in recent years. Moreover, the present student management system that has no integral planning and fails to make full use of campus network system is no longer suitable for the student management with the development of computer technology and the construction of the digital campus. Therefore, one of the useful paths to improve student management is updating the Student Management Information System under the new condition.The current Student Management Information System (SMIS) of Luzhou Vocational and Technical College (LVTC) is hampering the improvement of student management, because its function is single, operation efficiency is low, especially the operation of political education and comprehensive quality assessment still retains manual operation. To improve the management efficiency, it is necessary to develop a new SMIS which owns complete student management functions and can make full use of internet network.Based on investigating and analyzing the progress and trend of SMIS at home and abroad, research background and significance are put forward. Meanwhile, based on investigating the current situation of SMIS of LVTC, system requirements are discussed, and a feasible development scheme is proposed. The scheme elaborates detailed realizations, methods and key techniques. The B/S structure mode is employed to develop, debug and test the SMIS. The new SMIS with practicability and full functions is developed and works well in Luzhou Vocational and Technical College.
