The Internet of Things (IoT) is a new rapidly developed area, which hasbecome a new driving force for national economic growth and a leading area ofremodeling the long-term competitiveness of a country. In the1970s, thestructural health monitoring (SHM) was firstly applied to civil engineering. Byfar, existing structural health monitoring systems have some limitations. Most ofSHM provide services monitor for a specific single project structure. It isdifficult to form a cluster monitoring platform. If the technologies of Internet ofThings can be applied to the field of SHM to form the shared monitoring networkof multi-terminal system. The existing level of monitoring would be greatlyimproved. In this thesis, the application of IoT in SHM is investigated. It consistsof two main parts:(1) The characteristics of IoT and SHM are analyzed. Paper contrast onIoT’s perception layer and the sensor subsystem, IoT’s network layer andtransport subsystem, application layer and data processing and analysissubsystem, damage identification, model updating and safety assessme nt andearly warning subsystem, and data management subsystem. It can be realized thatcomprehensive perception, reliable transmission and intelligent processing arethree common features between IoT and SHM. It can be verified that SHM is anapplication of IoT in civil engineering, and SHM is a subnet of IoT. Finally, thepaper analyse the application prospects of IoT technology in SHM.(2) The most critical application of IoT is the cloud computing technologyin SHM. So it is necessary to design the application solutions of could computingin SHM. In this thesis, a cloud computing platform based on the SOA frame isdesigned for SHM. Service model and system model are established. Servicemodules of application layer are designed and deployed into the cloud. Finally,the Eucalyptus system is used to form a private cloud platform of SHM, whichconsists of three calculators, and to fulfill the transplantation of software systemin the cloud.
