Research Of Peripheral Unit Of Set Top Box With Low Power Consumption And Low Cost

STB (its full English name is Set Top Box·), whose full name is Digital TV set-topbox·, is a device used to improve or expand the function of TV. As the development ofthe society and the improvement of people·s life, STB has come into tens of thousandsof families. However, a research from NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) hasfound that the STB has the highest power consumption in one·s family. According tothe amount of the STB in China, the cost we have spent on it has been to2billiondollars every year.Firstly, a new kind of panel is introduced to replace the standard panel, then thepurpose of low power consumption and low cost can be completed. The method ofusing the GPIO and I2C will be used to complete the communication between the newpanel and the main chip. Meanwhile, compared with the three kind of standby mode, themethod of altering the process of the true standby mode is raised to finish the functionof network port forward. We accomplish the reset of network port, clock controlling andthe driver of the network port reloading.Secondly, the communication between the new panel and main chip should beaccomplished on fastboot and Linux kernel. The basic function of display and keypressing was applied on fastboot. Then the functions of open or close, reset, the blocktime setting, whether repeat key is allowed, the display of number and time, led flashing,level of flashing and getting the key value are accomplished in Linux kernel. After all ofthose steps, the communication is really achieved completely.Finally, we do some tests for what we have done. The power consumption and basisfunctions we need are tested. Then we test the two kinds of panel and compare witheach other. All of those functions are tested under the condition of standby, fastboot andkernel. At last, we get the conclusion that our new panel can not only reduce the powerconsumption but also finish all the functions that the standard can do.
