LouYue wrote387pieces of postscripts in his book Gongkuiji. This paper introduces the rise anddevelopment of postscripts in Song Dynasty, and the significance of the study on LouYue’spostscripts; investigates the creative background and theme; explains the literary theory; revealsthe literature values of them. This paper argues that, the style of inscription was emerging inSong Dynasty, it had two sources, one was derived from painting and calligraphy postscripttail,and the second was derived from the study notes. Wrote postscript was very popular in theSong Dynasty, which had specific historical and cultural background. From five aspects werebriefly summarized, were the academic development, epigraphy developed, literary flourish,painting and calligraphy art thriving and prosperity of woodblock printing. LouYue is one of thefamous writer who were good at postscripts in Song dynasty, WangShizhen, LiCiming,ZhangJunheng appreciated him, but so far the research on them are rare.First, postscripts’ creative back ground was from the family history and friends visit. on the onehand, how the Family of Lou in SiMing gradually developed into the aristocratic family from aweathy family. Collection of traditional and word learning training helped LouYue’s creation, onthe other hand, a wide variety of friends were good for wrote postscripts. The theme ofLouYue’s postscripts can divide into calligraphy, paintings, books, poetry, documents, letters,and biographies. The third chapter explains the literary theory in the inscriptions, including thecalligraphy theory, painting theory and poetry theory. The fourth chapter reveals the literaturevalue. Discussed for some academic books collation and textual research, Spring and AutumnAnnals, for example, LouYue collected different versions of the books, ultimately chose its finalversion after rigorous collation. This version has also been later affirmed. LouYue’s inscriptionsretained a lot of precious historical material for the understanding of the historical events, literaryanecdotes clues and evidence.
