Qin Zhaoyang is one of the typical cases of editors in the Contemporary literature history who worked more than20years in the People’s Literature (1949-1957) and the Contemporary(1979-1994). This paper is devoted to considering Qin Zhaoyang’s creative effect in the literary development and his editorial activities’ function to optimized literary ecology and maintained literature order from his identity roles as editor, writer and literary critic and his individual fate. It is important to reveal the discourse field in Chinese contemporary literary under the environment of special political and cultural environment, and seek the relationship of editorial subject, editorial activities and literature development regulations.Qin Zhaoyang has traditional intellectuals’personal temperament and literary editor’s enlightenment spirit which provided an personalized and subjectivity image. As an intellectual between tradition and modernity, politics and art, his identity’s paradox is obvious, so his cultural personality wouldn’t from split impossibly to a certain extent. Qin Zhaoyang made an explanation of games for socioculturally conventional and pure literature in his career as an editor.The complicated and painful identity of Qin Zhaoyang is deep and invisible. Facing the political storm and honorable history, he was still loyal to the editors’ spirit and created periodicals editing rational gradually. The rational consciousness of Qin Zhaoyang is not only the origin of him, but also the formation of his cultural identities. Thus, the editor’s identity of Qin Zhaoyang was formed in the interactive and integrative progress of tri-roles of writer, editor and literary critic. And the constructive process of Qin Zhaoyang’s roles of social cognition and literary editor is also a complicated form of his cultural personality.The cultural spirit of editor shows the esthetic trend of literature in the times. Qin Zhaoyang always emphasized diversity literary forms, pluralistic art styles and life meaning of the works. In the period of working as chief editor of the Contemporary, he continued his realism. We can find his cultural personality, quiet, massiness and middlebrow from this publication, which constructed the cultural coordinate to balance the traditional and the modern.Qin Zhaoyang has unique author views. From the treatment of series of edit works, it clearly showed how he get along with the writers facing different specifications in the culture field. Firstly, editors and writers should have the common understanding in some culture field who even have to receive restriction in their creating, such as the modification of the Young Newcomers from the Organization Department written by Wang Meng. Secondly, editors and writers have spiritual sympathy to realize literature communication and strengthen the new quality of culture field’driving force, such as he published The Lotus Town written by Gu Hua. Thirdly, if their points are different, the value orientation of Qin Zhaoyang will appear tendency and deviate from editors’spiritual and cultural pursuit, such as he rejected the September Fables written by Zhang Wei at the final revision. Yet anyhow, Qin Zhaoyang still guard securely value judgment and cultural spirit of editors. As a responsibility editor, Qin Zhaoyang need deliver part of subjectivity of himself and writers to achieve accreditation of editors and writers. To some degree, he selected retreat to get approval from the fields of culture and social, but he obtained subjectivity from another way.Editors and writers are the hidden levels in literary ecology. During the process of the publishing, Qin Zhaoyang realized the communication function of literature periodical and optimized literary production mechanism by all means. Literature communication has entered into the bidirectional cycle system with readers’ participation. It is not only the process of written by the writer, edited by the editor and read by the reader, but also chosen by them. The way of Qin Zhaoyang’s reader concept was like that, he attracted readers to take part in the process of communication through arranged creation, editor’s desk and literary criticism flexibly during the People’s Literature. And in the Contemporary, readers were pleased by the interaction of the editor and the reader. From Qin Zhaoyang’s literary creation and publication practice, we can know his selection was clear. He stuck to the artistic law of literature and never penetrated the scale of social and cultural standard. So as Qin Zhaoyang’s expectation, readers, editors and writers were around the central point of literature freely.Qin Zhaoyang’s literary editor career presented three different language modalities. Such as the pursuit of art aesthetic’s discourse through living and literature creation, the speech of knowledge mainbody through theory distillation and literary criticism practice and the expression of deep power discourse through literature communication and the practice of editing. All of that realized the unification of truth which effected the editor and their editorial actions. As a literature worker, Qin Zhaoyang was a self-inspection spiritual statue who realized literature social communication and function effectively through three different language modalities. Qin Zhaoayng’s destiny reflected the spiritual meaning and the risk of the editorial subject which have shown the great significance to literature development of the editor’s justice.Qin Zhaoyang’s ups and downs fate reflected spiritual meanings of the editorial subject and the risks of their role. Its editorial justice is very significant for the literature development. He published Realism is a Broad Path and stuck to artistic ideal. His editor life was presented the realization of the edition venture and the choice of editor’s justice could promote the development of the editorial subject and literature. Qin Zhaoyang is a noticeable editor in the history of modern Chinese literature who persisted Chinese literary realistic literature tradition, cultivated the new generation writers and carried forward periodical culture in front of new era.
