With the rapid development of wireless LAN technology and the falling prices ofwireless products, wireless LAN has been a wide range of applications. The increasingdemand for wireless network leads to the growth of the WLAN scale. In WLANarchitecture, centralized WLAN architecture has become the main trend for meeting thedemand of large-scale networking. AC is added to the architecture for centralizedmanagement of system AP. CAPWAP protocol is being standardized by the IETFprotocol for interactive communication between the AP and AC. In the practicalapplication, the load between the APs is different because of the mobility of wirelesssites and time-varying of channels. Currently in the market most STAs support2.4GHz.And the STAs that support2.4GHz and5GHz access to the2.4GHz band defaultly, sothe2.4GHz band load is much larger than the5GHz band’s. The2.4GHz band STA iscongested, and network resource utilization is low. How to balance the load differencesin the inter-AP and AP frequency points effectively to improve the overall performanceof the network and QoS of wireless LAN is a hot topic of research. Load balancingtechnology is born to solve this problem. On the basis of classification and analysis of the existing load balancingtechnology in the wireless local area network, the paper focuses on the implementationof the access load balancing and switching load balancing. Aiming at centralizedWLAN and dual-band AP characteristics, the access load balancing mechanism andswitching load balancing mechanism with its improved algorithm is proposed based onthe CAPWAP dual-band AP. The acquisition and determination, updating of loadinformation and design of scheduling algorithm in the load balancing process is studiedin detail. In the determination of the load information, the data packet loss rate isintroducted, so the AP load condition is reflected more realistically. In order to verifythe reliability and accuracy of the algorithm, this paper conducted simulation of theimproved algorithms, presenting that the two algorithms can balance the loaddifferences of inter-AP and AP frequencies accurately and effectively. And it caneffectively solve the overall network performance degradation problem caused by theload differences between the two frequencies when STAs access to the WLAN. Itappeared more favorable performance in the midst wireless network environment.
