With the development of economy and society, people are paying more attentionto health; so remote medical and portable medical become a demand. ECG monitoring,especially portable ECG monitoring is one of the most important aspects of medical.It plays a positive role in prevention and treatment of diseases of the heart. In recentyears, it becomes a hot research topic in the field of information and medical treatme-nt. Based on the research achievements at home and abroad on portable ECG monitor-ing, this paper designs and implements a portable ECG monitor with an iOS device,an ECG acquisition device and a remote web server. The main works done in thispaper is described as follows:(1) The portable ECG monitoring system based on iOS is designed. The systemtakes full advantage of iOS devices about powerful computing capabilities, good pro-grammability, enough storage, network connectivity, portability and so on. The syste-m can meet the need of portable ECG monitoring with a low cost.(2) This paper describes the characteristics of iPhone, introduces the basic frameof iOS and sumarizes development tools and design patterns of iOS application.(3) The main structure, modules and working process of the ECG acquisitiondevice are introduced in the paper. Modular design concept is adopted in ECGacquisition device and low power chips are selected. It has low power consumption,portability and other characteristics. It is mainly responsible for ECG acquisition andsending ECG data to iOS device.(4) The ECG monitoring application based on iOS is designed and developed. Abackground thread is used to receive ECG data. Quartz2D graphics library is utilizedto draw dynamic ECG. Adaptive differential threshold method is adopted to detect theR wave in order to compute the instantaneous heart rate and the average heart rate.The application can store and browse local data and it can also support remotemedical. In addition, this paper summarizes the basic principle of SVM and itsapplication in the detection of arrhythmia. Some related experiments have been takento prepare for transplanting SVM into iOS ECG monitoring application forarrhythmia detection in next step.(5) A lot of simulation experiments and clinical tests have been done to verify thefunction of the system. MIT-BIH arrhythmia database is used in simulation experime-nts and nine people randomly selected in the school participate in clinical tests. After the simulation experiments and clinical tests, the R wave detection accuracy wascomputed and the results showed that the system achieves the designed target.
