National image research is an important issue of communication research inrecent years, as the network has become the largest platform for the flow globalinformation, the spread of national image in network has important practicalsignificance. This paper take New York Times online and People’s Daily onlineasresearch objects.Byusing the methods of quantitative analysis and qualitativeanalysis,this project trying to analysisdifference in national image building betweenself and others. And then get some revelation of external communication from theirsignificant difference.The full text is divided into five chapters:Introduction part describes the purposeof study, past literature review, researchdesign and research theory.Chapters2and3respectivelyanalyzed national image theme concerns,nationalimage evaluation tendencies and depict of national image.Chapter4make detailed comparison of the differences of New York Times onlineand People’s Daily online in China’s national image building, concluded that the twohave emphasize on different theme particularly, polarization on image evaluation, aswell as significant differences on the image portrayed.Chapter5givesresearch conclusion, implicationsand strategic advice of the studyin view of foregoing analysis and comparison. Research suggests that here is asignificant difference in China’s national image building between self and others.People’s Daily online, one of the most important international broadcastingorganizations, has not been accepted by New York Timesonline, the representative ofthe Western mainstream media. Besides, news reporting style of People’s Daily onlinecan’t be accepted by western audience either.
