With the intensification of socialist market economy and the rapid development of science and technology, the mere professional education,"streaming once entering school", is gradually criticized by people, which force universities make appropriate adjustments on talents cultivation. Enrolling students in big subject categories is generally adopted by universities, which afterwards brings problems about professional streaming. From the prospective of comparison, this research studies the institution of professional streaming about the four world-class universities in US and eight universities of "Project211" in China. Through learning the excellent experiences abroad, it tries to find the existing problems and deficiency, which helps to reform the professional streaming institution of our colleges and universities.This research consists of five sections. The introduction part shows the reason, value, the methods and the train of thoughts of this study, which emphasizes on the literal review of our cultivation institution of professional streaming. The second part discusses the theory. It defines the following four concepts:"enrolling students in big subject categories","professional streaming","talent cultivation institution" and "institution of professional streaming" and the components of the professional streaming institution are used as a frame to analyze it both at home and abroad. Meanwhile, this part states the social labor division theory, individual difference theory, and the guiding significance to our cultivation institution of professional streaming. Through the analyses of the professional streaming institution of the four world-class universities in US, the third part summarizes its characteristics and points out the inspiration to us. The fourth section chooses the texts of the professional streaming institution of eight universities of "Project211" in China as the object. It proposes the main problems existing in our colleges and universities and also the solutions respectively.The following part is the conclusion of this research. The professional streaming institution consists of five elements about streaming: the subject, the object, the basis, the time and the procedure. The professional streaming institution of universities in US has the flexible time, the initiative objects, the various subjects, the full-scale basis and the concise procedures. And the enlightenment to us is to value students’ willing, to stress flexibility and opening and to give full guidance. The main problems existing in our professional streaming institution are as follows: the range of objects is too narrow, the basis of streaming partial, the procedure not thorough, and the time inflexible. Considering the existing problems and the successful experiences of US universities, we can reform our institution of professional streaming through the following steps, which are to broaden the objects, to perfect the basis, to optimize the procedures, and to elasticize the time.
