The Educational Endowment Of Private Higher School In Republic Of China

Sufficient school funds is closely related with the survival and development of private school. The numbers of private schools in this period reached a crescendo and different educational endowments had become the most vital financial strength to support private education. In the early years of the nineteenth century, there is no doubt that our country can avoid to exploring endowment road from other countries. As a major source of funds for private universities, education endowment plays a unique role of modern private higher education development in our country. Exploring the occurrence and development of this period education donation fills a gap period of history for the researches of the modern private universities in China in the aspect of theory. With a combination of writing form in aspect of practice, this research comprehensively summarizes and concludes the successful experience of private university education donation of the republic of China as far as possible, as to provide enlightenment in independently develop education donation for our modern and contemporary private institutions of higher school,This paper,following the development history of private colleges from1912to1937, tries finding the details of all the donations on the basis of modern China’s situation as well as the tradition and current demand of the educational endowment.These details include its profiles,subjects,motivation,form and channels and so on.Therefore,this paper summarize influences of China’s modern higher education which caused by the donations of private colleges in that period and propose helpful suggestions of the current donations activity of the non-state-operated colleges.The paper is divided into six parts preliminarily:the first part focus on the origins of the donations to the non-state-operated colleges in the Republican period which started with its historical conditions and the current demand;the second part do the whole analysis of the annual budget and the proportion of their donations during the twenty-sixth years of that period on their development background; the third part analyzes the main bodies and types of these colleges in that period and the behavior motivation of the subjects according to the related historical facts;the fourth part summarize the ways to raise funds in the non-state-operated colleges and their successful experiences;the fifth part analyze the actual meaning of the development of the non-state-operated colleges in details,which includes the financial support,the infrastructure and talent development and so on.Thus the data proved that it is particularly useful to the present development of the colleges in China; the sixth part propose the suggection to the educational endowment of contemporary Chinese universities on the basis of the successful experience of the Republican history.
