Consumption structure is in a certain socio-economic conditions, consumer information on a variety of different types of people in the process of consumption spending (including labor) proportional relationship. It reflects an important indicator of the socio-economic conditions improve, examining the content, quality and level of household consumption. Citizens educational level of its impact on the relationship between the consumption structure of consumption structure optimization is important to start from education. This paper first reviews the existing research on education and consumption structure to the theory of human capital theory, consumption structure theory as a basis to discuss the effects of the consumption structure, the mechanism of education effect on consumption structure and on the basis of clear research ideas and methods proposed hypothesis. In this paper, our nearly10years of inter-provincial panel data is used to take the empirical tests of the influence of educational level on the consumption structure of urban residents in China. The empirical results show that:(1) the average years of education and the level of consumption structure coefficient are significantly positive.(2) After adding income, consumption structure coefficient and the average years of education becomes insignificant, while income and consumption structure coefficient are significantly positive. This shows that average years of education can promote consumption structure coefficient. Besides, income is a intermediary role, and is entirely an intermediary role, between average years of education and consumption structure coefficient. It is by income that years of education promotes the level of consumption structure. Specifically, the longer the years of education is, the higher income is, so as to, the higher the level of consumption structure is. According to the conclusions, it is recommendated to increase investment in education, give full play to the role of education an increase the income level, so as to upgrade the consumption structure of urban residents in China.
