Strategies For Teaching Ability High School Students Space Imagination

The solid geometry is an important part of high school mathematics. However, in the teaching process, teachers find that students don’t know where to start faced with solid geometry problems because of their poor space imagination ability. In view of this situation, the author manages to find an efficient way to raise students’ space imagination ability, thus promoting their solid geometry learning. Although scholars at home and abroad do enormous researches on space imagination ability, there is no thorough study on high school stage and some studies have no practical significance in directing classroom teaching. Aiming at cultivating high school students’ space imagination ability, this paper proposes some teaching strategies for solid geometry teaching’s reference based on the levels of space imagination ability and the survey results.The first two chapters elaborate on the background of space imagination ability and its development trend at home and abroad, and put forward the concept of space imagination ability. Space imagination ability can be divided into three levels:(1) the formation of space concept;(2) the ability to construct geometry representation;(3) geometry representation operation.Chapter three evaluates the current situation of students’space imagination ability in the form of a questionnaire survey and the following seven conclusions are obtained by analyzing the survey:①Students’ background knowledge about solid geometry should be enriched;②Students fail to have a clear understanding of the basic concept, theorem and definition of solid geometry;②Students are incompetent in identifying, recognizing and drawing figures.④Students’ ability to transform the plane figures into solid figures should be improved.⑤Students’ ability to rotate figure is weak;⑥Students are unable to adopt the proper method to solve the item;⑦Boys and girls have different perceptions of space.Chapter four is the key part of this paper. According to the survey, the following measures are proposed to improve the teaching strategy:①Stimulate students’thirst for knowledge by introducing background knowledge to them;②Improve their understanding of basic knowledge;③Improve students’ ability to draw figures;④Devote attention to the transformation from plane geometry to solid geometry;⑤Cultivate students’ space imagination ability through the motion of figure;⑥Make a summary and classification;⑦Make most use of multimedia teaching;⑧Raise students’multiple thinking ability;⑨Change girls’ perception using the method of local intervention.Chapter five carries out experiments to verify the validity of the strategies above. The experiment shows that the above strategies are valid in general.The innovation of this paper is that it unifies the space imagination ability and the background knowledge of solid geometry, and does research on the current level of high school students’ space imagination ability.
