The group cooperative learning is a very creative teaching theory andstrategy which has been adopted in many countries all over the world.Because its proficient efficiency, it has been recognized as the mostsignificant and successful teaching innovation during the recent years. Withthe popularization of the New English Curriculum Standards (ExperimentalEdition) and the New Curriculum Reform, the Group Cooperative Learninghas become an increasingly popular trend of modern high school teaching.The Group Cooperative learning is a kind of teaching theory and strategysystem based on group work, which has been widely applied in the Englishteaching recently.This thesis is based on observing the problems existing in current teachingand learning and gives a brief introduction to the Group Cooperative Learning,then after summarizing the previous research on cooperative learning at homeand abroad, proposes the importance and necessity of the Group CooperativeLearning and then carries out a research on the effects of this method onEnglish learning in high school. The study was conducted in senior one inBayannaoEr City Second Middle School, with Class1as the controlled Classwhile class2as the experimental class. The mode of the Group CooperativeLearning was applied in the experimental class while the traditional teachingmethod was adopted in the controlled class. The data of this study was got mainly from questionnaire responses, tests and classroom observation notes.According to the research, conclusions can be drawn that the application ofthe Group Cooperative Learning method can enhance students’ motivation ofCooperative Learning, improve students’learning attitudes and their academicscores as well as their relations. The author hopes the results of the researchcan offer certain implications for other instructors engaged in high schoolEnglish teaching to improve the teaching efficiency.
