Cooperative and peer-assisted learning is a contemporary influential educational theory applied in many countries in the world in the past three decades. And in China, this kind of teaching mode has been proved superior to traditional teaching. The application of cooperative and peer-assisted learning meets the requirement of the new curriculum reform. In this thesis, the author tries to analyze the advantages and disadvantages of cooperative learning. Since the cooperative learning can’t meet the practical requirement of English teaching in senior high school, it’s essential to integrate peer-assisted learning with cooperative learning in English teaching. In this teaching mode, all the students in the large class benefit a lot, especially the students with low academic achievement.who used to be ignored in English class and had difficulty in learning. The experiment lasted for almost ten months from the early of September,2010to the middle of July,2011. In the experiment the author adopted questionnaire, interviews, and conducted the pre-test and the post-test. At last the author made a detailed analysis to verify the following hypothesis:The hypotheses of the experiment are as follows:1. Cooperative and peer-assisted learning mode can improve students’English proficiency in senior high school.2. It can arouse students’interests in English learning.3. It can enhance students’motivations in learning English. 4. It can help cultivate students’positive attitudes towards English learning. The results of the tests show that the students’academic achievement has been improved a lot in the experiment class. The data analysis indicate in this study that it’s feasible to integrate cooperative learning with peer-assisted learning in English class, which does have a positive influence on English learning in senior high school. |
