The mental health problems of children left behind in rural areas has become a serious social phenomenon and has been a strong focus. It is the result of the combined effects of a variety of reasons such as incomplete family structure, school psychologist lack of education and improper use of community resources and so on. It is mainly manifested as a weak eccentric character, pessimistic and depressed mood and poor moral consciousness so that it has a strong influence on the development of physical and mental health of the children left behind. The specific casework mode of left-behind children in rural areas of mental health problems as an example, this paper detailed analyzes of the use and problems of social work in the course of treatment of mental health problems of rural children left behind in accordance with the general process of social work and summarizes the basic intervention model under the guidance of the theory of ecological perspective. In the casework practice, we found that social work intervention of mental health problems of children left behind which is under the guidance of the theory of ecological perspective needs to follow some practical principle. At the same time, it also has some limitations.In order to solve the left-behind children’s mental health problems, social workers, clients, families, institutions, governments should cooperate with each other and make an effort on it. What’s more, the social administration should play an active role. Social work should be combined with psychology, education, sociology and other specific professional disciplines. The local practice exploration of left-behind children social work in rural areas must be combined with China’s actual conditions.
