A Study Of Senior High Students’ Motivation In English Learning

Motivation in English learning is one of the individual differences influencing the students’ English learning and it determines how much effort a student can afford and how much perseverance he can stick to in solving difficulties in English learning, and thus it has a great effect on students’English learning achievements in English learning. And the view is also agreed by many linguistic scholars and it is also included in the National English Curriculum Standard (2001).English learning motivation is a kind of inner force (one’s need, desire to learn English, etc.) which can push a learner to put his/her effort into English learning willingly and effectively.In daily teaching, English teachers often meet with the occasions when the English teacher designs teaching procedures carefully and considers every possible contents of teaching steps and knowledge points well and performs perfectly in classes but because the teacher doesn’t take the students’individual factors into consideration and doesn’t investigate their interest, their needs and their problems, it is a pity that the teacher can’t achieve what he/she has planned.It is of great help for English teachers to know about the students’ motivation in English learning, to know their views on English learning, their sources of motivation and factors influencing their motivation so that they can find out ways to activate the students’ motivation in English learning and make them learn English with full heart and help them make progress in English learning.The author not only does some literature review on the theories of motivation from both the aspects of psychology and Second Language Acquisition (SLA) but also does some survey on the factors influencing students’motivation and also does some productive experiments on how to arouse students’motivation.The purpose of this paper is to find out ways to motivate the students in English learning and thus improve their English learning.
