With the further development of educational reform in vocational schools, thegoal of vocational school English curriculum has turned to “training students Englishapplication ability in daily life and occupation”. The aim of vocational school Englishteaching is not only to enable the students to pass the general examination and get thegraduation certificate but also to train the students’ communicative competence inorder to raise their advantages for employment.At the beginning of the1990s, teachers started to use cooperative learning inChina. So far, however, teacher-oriented teaching still plays an important role in ourschool life. In vocational schools, in particular, English teachers have to keepthemselves busy keeping the class in order. Cooperative learning is only used for openclass demonstration. Cooperative learning cannot play its role.This study proceeds with the reality of vocational school teaching and is guidedwith the theory of cooperative learning. The author conducts an experiment in the twoclasses in her vocational school and studies the application of cooperative learningstrategies. The author takes “Brain-storming” strategy for example, and probes for themost suitable cooperative learning strategy in vocational schools. Experiment andquestionnaire used as research tools in the process. The author combines multi-mediaplayer and traditional class, broadens the range of cooperative learning from only inclass to after class and in class. The result shows that cooperative learning strategiesare effective. It plays an important role in raising the students’ scores and stimulatingstudents’ interesting in English learning. It also plays an important role in students’participation and developing their communicative competence and cooperation.
