The concept,"advance organizer", was proposed in1960by David Paul Ausubel, an American representative in cognitive psychology and educational psychologist."Advance organizer" is based on the "theory of meaningful learning" by David Paul Ausubel. It bridges the new and old knowledge; it is the guiding material which includes the new knowledge into the cognitive structure. Ever since the concept was proposed, great attention has been paid to the research and application of the theory.Class teaching is an important part of chemistry teaching in middle schools. How to improve class teaching of chemistry and how to lead students to meaningful learning are important tasks in chemistry teaching in senior middle schools. After an experimental research into the teaching method of "advance organizer" in class teaching of chemistry in senior high schools, and after different methods such as test analysis, questionnaires, qualitative and quantitative combined, this dissertation concludes:(1) The teaching method of "advance organizer" promotes students’efficient study;(2) the teaching method of "advance organizer" promotes teaching results, which is obvious after the research;(3) the teaching method of "advance organizer" has little different effects on boys and girls;(4) students hold a positive attitude towards the teaching method of "advance organizer". Meanwhile, several pieces of advice are given in order to solve the problems during class teaching:(1) teachers should pertinently apply the teaching method of "advance organizer";(2) the teaching method of "advance organizer" should be flexibly used together with some other teaching methods;(3) while applying the teaching method of "advance organizer", teachers should explore students’initiative as well;(4) the teaching method of "advance organizer" needs to be applied together with a full use of the textbook.
