This paper, which is based on the theories of Constructivism and the inputHypothesis of S. Krashen, elaborates the teaching practice of English Movie Coursein secondary vocational schools. Employing to illustrate the importance of the currenthumanistic education, the study increased the cross-cultural awareness and made anintegral person. As an optional course in secondary vocational schools, English movieclass can be the very vehicle to boost up the students’ study interest, broaden span ofview, and improve the students’ personalities as well as their linguistic competencewhich shows the necessity and importance of developing English movie class.According to the professional characteristics of vocational school students, thepractice focuses on how to develop students’ intercultural awareness, the practicalapplication of the language, and the overall development of students’ personality.Appreciating English movies can not only provide the syntax rules of expression, butalso provide a lot of flexibility in the daily habits of expression in line with thelanguage of the form, and reflect a nation, a country’s history and geography, customs,habits, norms, values etc. English movies can provide the students more vividlanguage. This kind of living language is better to lead the students a comprehensiveand three-dimensional way for language learning. On the other hand, appreciatingmovies is more attractive for the students and interests them a lot, for there arefascinating stories, profound truth, and special design. Although language learning isboring, it is not isolated and static. Once the interest is coming and guided by theteachers in a right way, the language learning will become active and effective.Including the favorable factors which can be made use of by teachers, English moviescan stir up the students’ interests and create atmosphere for more effective learning.The author spent a whole semester exploring and practicing English movieoptional course in a secondary vocational school. During the semester, two similarclasses are selected for the experiment. Based on the author’s experimental work onthis course, the thesis is meant to study the teaching aim, contents, implementation, and evaluation, etc, so as to make a scientific, effective and feasible teaching design.The design in this thesis can be used to guide teaching practice in vocational schools.At the end of the experiment, the analysis of the scores and the results of thequestionnaire showed that English movie course is beneficial to English learning anddeveloping the students’ general English level.Besides the introduction, there are four chapters in this paper. The first part isliterature review, which expounds the current situation and development tendency ofselective courses at home and abroad. The second part is theoretical foundation,including the theories of Constructivism and the input Hypothesis of S. Krashen.Empirical research is the third chapter and the fourth one talks about the revelation ofthe study. At last, the writer summarizes the study and explains the limitation.
