The National English Curriculum for Senior Students claims the task for the senior period is to stimulate the students’interest, build the students’ confidence, develop good study habits, form effective learning strategies, and acquire self-learning abilities. The new curriculum reform advocates promoting learner-centered teaching method not the teacher-centered method. However, the actual action of independent learning is not obvious; the students still depend on the teacher; they don’t know how to put autonomous consciousness into action. They lack interest in reading. At present, the learning situation is still far from our goals.Based on constructivism, humanism, and autonomous learning theory, Guided-learning Plan (GLP) explores the use of the learner-centered teaching plan to train students to read independently and develop their effective autonomous learning strategies. This study was conducted in Number2Middle School of Lutai in Tianjin that is a school with more than2000students, and the students are from Class One and Class Two, Senior Two.The aim of this research is to investigate whether guided-learning plan can cultivate the students’ ability of autonomous learning in reading.Through questionnaires, interviews, and research, the author has obtained the following results:1GLP is an effective way to develop students’ autonomous learning;2GLP stimulates students’ independent reading motivation;3GLP makes the reading class more effective.
