Study On The Development Of The Science Park University In The UK

Mankind have entered the era of knowledge economy after the three times revolution of science and technology, strengthen the innovation and application of scientific knowledge has become an irreversible trend of the times. University as a carrier of the knowledge transfer and knowledge innovation will play an increasingly important role. In the1970s, Britain suffered a huge impact of economic crisis, the Thatcher’s government cut spending on higher education, make the UK university into economic difficulties. In order to alleviate the economic pressure on the UK universities, learn from the successful experience of the United States, began to change the concept, explore actively the path of the cooperation between university and industry. In1970, Britain’s first Science Park was built by University of Cambridge—Cambridge Science Park, after more than40years, the science parks in UK have been growing stronger and made remarkable achievements. Based on both Chinese and English literature review, this research summarizes three forms of universities’ involving in the development of science park in Britain, such as university alone, joint venture company and cooperative project involving other partners. people-based activities, problem-solving activities and community-based activities are analysed here. In addition, two successful cases are introduced. However, whether universities promotes the development of the science parks in britain or not, domestic and foreign scholars put forward different views, but there is no doubt that most people have a positive attitude. In China, science parks are started late and have obtained some achievements, but they are still in the initial stage. Universities’ involving in the development of the science park in China should learn experience from Britain. For example, China’s Universities should constantly explore the forefront of science and technology, take practical measures to strengthen the cooperation between universities and companies, make use of its own scientific research advantages to build characteristic science park positively and create entrepreneurial culture atmosphere in universities to cultivate entrepreneurs with education background of science and technology.
