The new round curriculum reform of elementary education began in the beginning of this century. With the promulgation of the new curriculum standards, tremendous changes have taken place in the field of mathematics education. There are many new ideas about the concept of curriculum design, the ojectives of teaching and learning, the arrangement of the textbook, the teacher-student relationship, teaching methods and learning approaches. In particular, eight core concepts are defined in detail in the newly enacted " Mathematics Curriculum Standards in Compulsory Education (2011Edition)", in which geometry intuition is listed as one of them for the first time. It is essential for mathematics educators to have a comprehensive understanding of the definition of the geometry intuition and it is their responsibility to cultivate students’ geometry intuition abilities. In fact, the concept of geometry intuition has been mentioned in the Mathematics Curriculum Standards for High School (2003Experimental Edition), in which it writes teachers are supposed to strengthen the idea of geometry intuition, put much attention to the role of graphs and geometry intuition in mathematics learning and encourage students to think on the basis of intuition. To teach geometry, geometry intuition should be used to explore the relationship between the geometry elements in graphs. Geometry intuition is also used to find out the nature or the relationship of the subject in teaching other contents. According to the statements above, it is obvious that geometry intuition is used throughout the mathematics teaching. The application of geometry intuition can facilitate students’ understanding of the nature of mathematics and stimulate students’ innovative thinking, which is crucial to the development of learners’ creativity and logical thinking in mathematics. This article is on the basis of the new curriculum, some literatures of geometric intuition both at home and abroad and an empirical study of the mathematics teaching in middle school and high school, in which the author is trying to study geometry intuition grading and the teaching practice of geometry intuition. The paper is divided into the following five parts: Chapter one, It is the introduction part, in which the author first introduces the research background and demonstrates the requirement of geometry intuition abilities in the new curriculum. And then the author describes the purpose, significance of this study and its research methods.Chapter two, It’s an overview of the geometry intuition ability. First, the core concepts involved in this paper are defined then some theories about geometry intuition capacity development are introduced, which lay a theoretical foundation for the geometry intuition grading. Finally, the author provides a brief description of the role of geometry intuition abilities in mathematics education.Chapter three, It’s a survey of the high school freshmen’s understanding and abilities of geometry intuition. In this section, questionnaires are used to study students’ understanding of geometry intuition and the practice of the cultivation of students’ geometry intuition abilities in school. After that, the author use a typical test to analyze learners’geometry intuition abilities.Chapter four, Some teaching strategies to cultivate students’geometry intuition abilities are provided. In accordance with the three abilities of geometry intuition:space imagination, intuitive insight and the ability to think with a graphic language, the author is trying to explore teaching strategies respectively.Chapter five, It is the conclusion part, in which the author describes the major research findings, limitations of this research and suggestions for futher study. To cultivate students’ geometry intuition abilities is a long process throughout the whole teaching period. Teachers are supposed to explore appropriate teaching methods for different levels of students based on their understanding of the geometry intuition so as to improve students’geometry intuition abilities.
